Electric vehicle Charging

Please read the whole of this section

Can I charge using a 3-pin-plug?

Unfortunately not - this is explicitly forbidden as the internal power in the cottages has not been approved for this use. In particular, using a regular 3-pin plug via a domestic socket, (with an extension lead trailing across the property or through windows) could create a fire hazard, due to the extended use for car charging.

In addition, our insurance company will not cover us for guests plugging their EV into your domestic sockets.

Safety of our guests is a primary concern for us. Therefore, if you break this rule, we reserve the right to ask you to leave and you will forfeit the balance of your holiday rental and breakage deposit. You will also be liable for any damage caused.

Waterside Retreat and Brightside

Waterside Retreat and Brightside each have an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charge Point.

If you want to make use of this, you need to either select the optional extra at the time of booking or contact us before your holiday. We take a prepayment of £50 per car, per stay.

At the end of your stay, we will provide you with a breakdown of the electricity used and refund any money remaining.

If you use more that the amount paid, we may take a further prepayment or use the breakage deposit to cover the cost of electricity used.

See below for information on how to charge your vehicle.

Kingfisher Lure, Sunset Haven & Swan Cottage

Kingfisher Lure, Sunset Haven & Swan Cottage do not currently have a Electric Vehicle (EV) Charge Point.

If you wish to charge your vehicle, here is a list of places nearby:

  • zap-map.com
  • Search Google
  • Wroxham Barns
  • geniepoint.co.uk
  • Coming soon: Roys of Wroxham are installing a few charging points in their carpark by the Roys department store and opposite Bradley Hatch Jewellers (NR12 8QG). There is one rapid charger and a few slower chargers where you will need your own cable. We don't have a date for this yet, but must be soon, as they have been installed, but not yet available for use.

EV Charging Instructions

Waterside Retreat and Brightside each have a 7 kWh tethered model (8 meter cable) with a Type 2 connector. The charger is locked and can only be unlocked by ourselves, using a mobile app. We will unlock it for your stay, if you have prepaid for charging.

To Charge you Vehicle

The 7kW is a fast charger and should charge:

  • MINI Electric approx. 3.5 hours
  • Nissan Leaf 40kWh approx. 6 hours

To remove the plug

Stop the charging session on your cars app or onboard screen and unplug replacing the cable in the wall unit docking station.

The cost of electricity will vary from time to time, based on the cost to us from our energy supplier and will be updated here. It also includes a small contribution towards the running costs of the Electric Car charger.

The current rate is £0.45 per kWh
