A page about us and River Cottages

A family that loves the Broads as much as you do

River Cottages is partly a labour of love. We – brothers, Paul and Stephen – have spent most of our summers on the Broads ever since our parents took us there when we were small. We passed that passion on to our own children who are now as eager to get back to the Broads as we are. As a family we still spend our happiest times together fishing from our landing stage or idling our way through the backwaters.

In 2005 we decided to help a few more people enjoy the landscape that inspires us. We bought a delightful cottage in the heart of Wroxham, and started renting it to fellow Norfolk Broads enthusiasts. Because we knew the place so well, we found it easy to share our knowledge with newcomers. Now we have five cottages and many long-term guests who come back year after year. They trust us to give them the Norfolk Broads holiday of their dreams.

From Wroxham Cottage to River Cottages: a note about our name change

When we started, we were just one cottage, so we called ourselves Wroxham Cottage. That was fine for a year or two, but a little out of place by the time we'd become five Wroxham cottages. So we took the plunge and renamed ourselves in early 2021. We're now River Cottages, and – as our friends keep saying – about time too.

Everything else is exactly as before – same cottages, same friendly family service, same happy days on the water.

Five self-catering waterfront cottages

Our five Wroxham holiday cottages are at the heart of the village. All are within five minutes' walk of Wroxham's shops, pub, and restaurants. All have their own private landing stage and a rowing boat that you can use for fishing or paddling around the village.

We picked our cottages to suit a wide range of guests from small families to large groups of friends. The smallest cottage sleeps four people, the largest sleeps 11. One cottage has wheelchair access to the ground floor with double bedroom and large walk-in shower room. Best of all, they're arranged in two groups of neighbouring properties. The smaller three are in one group (in total sleeping up to 15 people); the larger two are in a separate group sleeping up to 19 people. The two groups are just 250 metres apart, so there's always the option of booking all five cottages for a party of up to 34 people.
